Tri-Cities, Washington
Folklore Society is a literary nonprofit for the Tri-Cities. We fundraise to bring authors out east, champion our independent bookstores, and support the readers and organizers already building a literary scene here.
Reading is a solitary act. A reading life is a shared one.
Our work
We fundraise to bring authors out to the Tri-Cities for readings, signings, and conversations. Some will be debut novelists, some will be names you recognize, some will be writers who live an hour down the road and deserve a proper room. Your donations make the guest list.
Independent bookstores, regional writers, and the small presses east of the Cascades. We buy from them, promote them, and make sure they're on every stage we help build.
The Tri-Cities already has book clubs, reading series, and people building literary community. What's missing is the fundraising and nonprofit structure to help it all grow. That's where we come in. We underwrite, we partner, we show up where we're useful.
Support our work
We fundraise to bring authors to the Tri-Cities for readings and signings. Your gift covers the honoraria, travel, and lodging it takes to get a writer here and give them a proper room.
Give to the Author FundEvery quarter, readers vote on a book by a local or regional author. We buy the winner from a Tri-Cities indie bookstore and place copies in Little Free Libraries across the metro. Your $5 vote funds the whole thing.
How Shelf Life worksA $25 gift, and Folklore applies a custom label with your name, a dedicatee, and a short message. The bottle joins the bar lineup at the next Folklore event. A small public tribute.
Dedicate a bottleFolklore runs on less-visible work too: licensing, insurance, bar supplies, and the everyday costs that keep a small nonprofit going. A gift here goes wherever it's most useful at the moment.
